For Weston Hadley, seeing Lady Madeline Hayburn truly is love at first sight, even though his infamous family puts her far above his reach. Yet when Madeline discovers that he is a werewolf, he is forced to marry her to keep his family's secret safe. Madeline is still wrapping her mind around the idea that werewolves exist. She should be more frightened, but Weston makes her feel far safer than the greedy suitors waiting at home. She thought marriage would be loveless either way, but the more she sees in Weston, the more she feels love may have found her after all. Weston and Madeline hark back to traditional Regency-romance couples—the innocent, naive girl and the gentle, long-suffering hero—and Dare skillfully keeps Madeline from being unlikable or silly. They're joined by an equally lovable supporting cast in a fast-paced, sweet story. The sensuality is not mild; however, in Dare's sequel to The Taming of the Wolf (2010), it attains just the right level to make a gal want a wolf of her own. Copyright 2012 Booklist Reviews.

Dare returns to her gentleman werewolves in 1820 Mayfair with a new story arc featuring Weston, Grayson, and Archer Hadley, penniless and ill-behaved younger half-brothers of imposing marquess and Alpha werewolf Dashiel Thorpe (protagonist of The Taming of the Wolf). Lady Madeline Hayburn, bored with dowry-seeking suitors, finds Weston intriguing and follows him on the night of the full moon. When she sees him turn into a wolf, he decides the only way to keep the secret within the family is whisk her off to Scotland in a carriage sent by Dashiel's prescient wife, Lady Cait, and bed Maddie before her father can catch them. Family politics are full of personality and strong repartee; the bickering between brothers and the kind, determined machinations of Lady Cait are especially amusing. But the awkward abduction turning into a passionate love match fails to convince, and the protagonists' problems mostly come from their own inconsistent, whiny, and stubborn behavior. Agent: Melissa Jeglinski, the Knight Agency. (Apr.)
